An unusual album in the No-Man catalogue. It’s a compilation album consisting of rare and obscure tracks that had only been released on cassette between ’88 and ’89 – then they were re-mixed and the vocals re-recorded for this release. It’s hard to believe that this band was Steven Wilson’s first major success, and that Porcupine Tree was just a project that grew out of this band.
A very different vibe to their early dance trip hop vibe. It’s a lot more experimental and ambient in places with Tim’s magnificent voice flowing over the top of the sounds below. It’s not until we get to track five with Heaven’s Break that a groove appears with the keyboard pattern.
I would recommend trying their albums’s Flowermouth or Wild Opera as these are the best No Man records. Although, I do find this album is a great stress reliever. This album is for hardcore fans and SW completists.
