TRUST – Repression

This was the Trust’s third release and the first with a version recorded in English. The band was helped in the translation by Jimmy Pursey, from the punk band UK Subs.

I’m sure most people will be aware of the track Antisocial, which was released as a single in the UK and did quite well. The track was also covered by Anthrax on their State Of Euphoria album. Killer band both on record and live, they also supported Iron Maiden and AC/DC, whom Bernie (the singer) had a great friendship with Bon Scott. This and Marche Ou Creve are my favourite albums, mainly because of the great hooky songs and guitarist Nono’s superb riffs and guitar tone. Political statement is the main focus of the band’s lyrics and they were considered as heroes in France. Released in 1980 this is a kick ass record that I still play regularly today. Favourite tracks, and there are a few, Death Instinct has a killer riff and grove, Sects which is one of the best songs the band ever did IMHO with a killer uptempo groove and max riffage, and the close out track sung in French Le Mitarda, I just love the repeating riff. The band called it a day in ’85 only to return in the 2000’s and there are a couple of live dvd’s out there that if you see them grab them. Great record!!!

TRUST – Paris By Night Live

Now we have bands like Gojira and Uneven Structure to glory over, but for the longest time France’s best export to the world of rock n roll was Trust. This album was recorded in Paris at the Monsters Of Rock show with Iron Maiden and Anthrax. The band were on fire the night they recorded this. I’m sure you all know that even Anthrax covered Antisocial as a single. They even improve on the album takes of the songs, and I really love the tone of Nuno’s guitar. Some people are put off by the fact that they sing in French, but I don’t hear anyone complaining about Rammstein.

A really cool opening with Paris By Night as it’s Love At First Feel by AC/DC with different lyrics – Bernie and Bon Scott were good friends. Highlights here (and there are many) are Sors Tes Griffes – with a great riff and groove, a killer version of Antisocial with great crowd interaction, Ton Dernier Acte – as l love the power of the song, and L’Elite which closes out the album.

A really great album by a band that many people pass over. If you are a lover of mid-eighties hard rock then you will love this album.

TRUST – Marche Ou Creve

If you are like me, and you became aware of these French rockers through their single, Antisocial, and a support slot with Iron Maiden – you will know what a great band they are! The Repression album was translated in English by non other than Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69. Fun fact #57, drummer Nicko McBrain would leave after this album to join Maiden as their drummist. This is the follow up to Repression, and this is the French version. The English version was called Savage. Even though I couldn’t tell you what the subject matter is, I enjoy this album to the max.

In opener, La Grande Illusion, it does make the 12 year old inside me laugh as I’m sure they sing Fart, Fart, Fart in the sing-a-long section. Anyhoo, don’t be distracted by that as it’s a great song with a cool riff! La Sauvage follows and that’s another hard rockin’ tune. Next up is Repression, with a killer groove and riff from guitarist Nono. La Junte is next, with some tasty guitar and spat vocal from Bernie, and a killer solo. Misere closes out Side 1 – probably the weakest song on the album.

Side 2 kicks in with Les Brutes, with it’s quite happy riff, and it is apparently about the Soviets crushing the Prague Spring in ’79. The title track is another killer tune with that driving beat and a great riff. Album closer, Ton Dernier Acte, starts off slow with spoken lyric, and a riff played quiet, and then builds – this is my favourite track from the album. Really love Nono’s playing, and this track highlights it perfectly – killer tune.

PLAY VERY LOUD!!! A quick mention to producer Tony Platt who has given the band a killer sound with a great mix. If you like hard rock the this is for you.
