BRITNY FOX – Bite Down Hard

Big thanks to the people at Real Gone Music for this very striking vinyl reissue. But, where’s the quality control with the cover and wrong track listing? Tut tut!

This is the band’s third release, and the first with Tommy Paris on vocals after the departure of a dizzy Dean Davidson to form Blackeyed Susan. We are off to a killer start with Six Gins Loaded, an uptempo blast with a killer groove and riff, as well as some epic guitar from guest Zakk Wylde. It’s my favourite track. Louder slows things down a tad with a very dirty simple riff, as well as a hook and a chorus to die for. Very catchy indeed! Liar starts with a very country-style acoustic before the main riff, which is a very sleazy barroom groove. Great drum sound! Closer To Your Love is pure LA glam complete with the huge sounding simple riff and the sing-a-long chorus. We close out Side 1 with Over And Out, and it’s big ballad time.

Shot From My Gun opens up Side 2 and it’s glam overload. Again, a very simple riff, catchy groove, and cheesy sing-a-long chorus is all you need. It’s anthem time with Black And White. It has a football chant-style chorus. Look My Way is my least favourite on the album. I know a lot of people like these soppy ballads with balls type tunes, but they just don’t do it for me. Back to the sleazy glam with Lonely To Long, a killer groove and AC/DC riff. The album closes out with Midnight Moses, a cover of the Alex Harvey song, and other than the heavier guitar it’s a fair cover of the classic original. I think I like this album is the best of all their releases.

BRITNY FOX – Boys In Heat

This is the band’s second album that came out in ’89. Very similar in style to Cinderella, and that is mainly due to the gravelly vocal style of Tom Keifer and Dizzy Dean Davidson. In fact, Dizzy Dean would leave the band after this album to form Blackeyed Susan.

On to the tunes, and this album is a step up from their self titled debut. Opening track, In Motion, is a killer tune with a great groove and riff, and is slam-glam-thank-you-man. Standing In The Shadows follows and is more of the same with a cool hook and chorus. Hair Of The Dog is a cover of the Nazareth classic, and it’s pretty hard to cover a classic like that and improve on it – the original is better. Livin’ On A Dream is up next, and a deep heavy blues vibe starts things off before they sleaze things up nicely. She’s So Lonely has a sleazy main riff and a great hook and chorus, and if you close your eyes you’d think this was Cinderella. Dream On has the same vibe as Poison’s Every Rose, mainly due to the acoustic guitar. Long Way From Home closes out Side 1, and if anyone’s counting, that’s 7 tracks on Side 1. Short and to the point my friends. Very Bon Jovi in vibe and would have made a great single.

Side 2 rolls in with Plenty Of Love – a great fat riff and groove and it’s hair metal 101. Great track! Stevie is the second of two tracks that Dizzy Dean shares writing duties, and it’s quite a simple riff but heavy on the sleaze. Shine On starts with huge chords and has a slow vibe and groove. Angel In My Heart has monster chords, and they are trying their best to channel their inner Springsteen. Left Me Stray is AC/DC homage time, and then the album closes out with Longroad – it’s ballad time with that hint of country thrown in.

My favourite track is opening tune, In Motion. Don’t think Britny Fox got the credit they deserved, and things would change after this album.

8.5/10 from The Grooveman.

BRITNY FOX – s/t

The band’s first album released in ’88, right at the height of dudes looking like chics era, and if you look at the cover photo it’s hard to tell. 😂😂

Sleazy good time rock n’ roll no more no less with the voice that sounds as though he has been gargling glass, on most of the tracks anyway. Long Way To Love has a very Kiss sounding vibe to the main hook of the song and almost sounds like Paul Stanley. This album is an every night is Friday Night type of record. Big sing-a-long hands in the air groovers with lyrics that don’t mean a whole bunch other than to have a good time. Rock Revolution, Fun In Texas, and Kick N’ Fight, these are all these types of songs and for me they are the best on the album.

8/10 from The Grooveman.
